A little about me:
Hi everyone! My name is Kali Francisco. Welcome to my journey as a journalist. I am currently a co-editor-in-chief for East Lansing High School's publication, Ceniad. Last year, I served as a design editor, and the previous year a writer.

After serving as a writer, design editor, and co-editor-in-chief for Ceniad at ELHS, yearbook has become one of my biggest passions, and quite literally, my entire life. I have had the opportunity to make lifelong friends while learning incredibly valuable lessons from amazing mentors. I am extremely lucky to serve not only as the leader of the publication but a leader for my peers. I found a sense of confidence and maturity that enabled me to teach my staff not only how to craft a publication that they we are proud of, but one that we take pride in creating. It is important to me that each member of Ceniad is given the opportunity to find their spark in the Ceniad community, just as once did when I discovered my passion for journalistic design. Through every deadline night, InDesign crash, editor meeting, and mental breakdown about a spread -- the lessons I have learned in room 604 have become an integral part of my character.

Words from some people who mean a lot to me:
Whenever I was struggling with a design idea or concept, I always turned to Kali for advice. She is an exceptional leader who excels in teaching not only design, but also writing and photography. She has never missed a deadline and always pushes other staff members to fulfill their potential. Each of her spreads hold a unique aspect that cannot be found on anything else. She has so much variety as a designer which is why I look to her often for guidance and encouragement when working with her on the Ceniad staff." “Even though Kali started off as a writer, I think a part of her always knew she wanted to do design. We used to joke our first year, calling Kali the design manager, but she really lived up to that title, even in creating her first spread. Kali is the type of designer you hope to get assigned with. Not only has she raised the bar for Ceniad’s design, but she’s provided such a refreshing community leading as co-editor-in-chief. She truly is the best of the best.” Kali's like a naturally born leader. She takes initiative and spends hours on Zoom helping other designers. She somehow is still filled with even more great ideas and technique, and she’s happy to share those with others. I’m grateful to work alongside her. Most of all, I’m grateful to have been able to watch her transformation as a journalist. I’m able to compare watching her first trying to figure out InDesign two years ago with her now being able to look at a spread, figure out how it could be improved, and then effortlessly make those changes. I love watching her work because her talent and passion makes everything she works on a work of art. Kali has made our book what it is, and we are all so grateful for her." |
I am so lucky to be able to work with Kali as a fellow designer and as co editor-in-chief. She always pushes the boundaries with her designs and never settles for what less than the best. I admire her creative process as I can see her inspiration pieces translate onto the spread. Kali is also an incredible leader. She is a powerful voice on our staff and maintains a positive environment while promoting a culture of continuous growth and improvement." |
